Low Back Pain

Low back pain might be the most common reason people think of coming to see a chiropractor. But what do we actually do and why is it so effective?

There are two types of lower back pain we deal with.

Acute - a new injury, most commonly after lifting wrong or twisting in an unusual way or even after a sports game.

Chronic - pain that’s lasted over 12 months and seems to stay the same or come and go without much of a trigger at all.

Chiropractors assess and adjust the joints of the spine. The spinal joints should all move individually of each other and in the healthy way. Over time or suddenly (chronic vs acute) the spinal segments can stop moving correctly and almost jam up on each other.

When the joints stop moving correctly this can cause pain receptors in the joints to fire, but also and more commonly it causes the body to compensate and then gradually the whole spine stops working as it should thus creating more discomfort and pain.

Chiropractors get the joints moving well again and restore their function. We also address the muscles that attach to the spine to ensure the whole system is working well together. This is important in both acute and chronic back pain.

Some signs that you should see a chiropractor for back pain are

Pain upon bending

Pain after gardening

Pain after walking, especially uphill

Pain after gym exercises

Back pain that comes and goes every few months

Stiff and sore in the mornings

Hard to get out of chairs

The list could go on but these are the most common complaints we see.

Although back pain is the most common reason people come into our practice, we do our best to try and encourage people to come in before they get sore and get the spine moving as best as possible to function well, before the injury or pain can set in.

We offer Free 15 Min Consults if you would like to talk to us about your issues before committing to an appointment.
