Can chiropractic help balance?

Chiropractic Care and Balance

Our brain is constantly receiving information from our bodies every second of the day. This information is so important in allowing our brain to control and regulate all of our bodies functions. This includes being able to accurately know where our body is in space.

This information is carried from the body up through the spine and into the brain. However, studies have found that if there is areas of dysfunction within the spine– the brain will often receive incorrect information.

This means that our body is not able to accurately control and coordinate movements and can often lead to us being uncoordinated or clumsy.

Studies have found that chiropractic adjustments to the spine can actually affect the function of the cerebellum – the portion of brain that controls balance and accurate movements. The cerebellum is also key in being able to learn new skills. Further studies have also found that chiropractic care can help with reducing falls in the elder population as the body is more accurately able to know where it is in space and able to respond quicker.

We can have these areas of dysfunction in our spine without experiencing any pain at all. If you have noticed some difficulties in balance or coordination – get in touch and we can have chat on how we may be able to help.
